S.A.’s Infrastructure Straining at the Seams
By Daniel Silke
What a problem to have! South Africa’s economy has been roaring ahead at around 5% per annum leaving
most commentators and government planners surprised. All this good news is wonderful for a country
that came out of extreme isolation-but there is so much economic growth and activity that the country is
finding it increasingly difficult to cope!...

Crossing the Borders of Power
The Memoirs of Colin Eglin
Colin Eglin was at the frontline of South African history for the second half of the 20th Century. He served in

constitutions, from the Union constitution to the constitution of 1996. After forty-six turbulent,
demanding years of public life, he retired.

TV film crew worked hard to capture Durban’s Graham Perkett of Perky’s Foods preparing
some delicious South African traditional dishes...

bottlenecks at Durban harbor, S.A.’s busiest. Cape Town isn’t much better. PE and East
London are okay for now...

during the past month or two. With the IRC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies taking up
most afternoons and evenings, and six or seven Super 14 rugby games occupying
the gardeners every weekend, lawns as well as families were severely neglected.
Heart attacks probably also doubled in the same period with the
Proteas causing these when they lost to cricketing minnows Bangladesh
in the Super 8 phase of the World Cup. South Africa’s five Super 14 teams...

Culture Shock: HAIR RAISING KITCHEN SINK SCENES
By Drienie Hattingh
Iwas having tea with a neighbor in Minnesota when she looked at her watch and exclaimed, "Gosh,
Drienie, I totally forgot! We’re going out tonight and I have to wash my hair-but...,"
said she, "don’t go-we’ll chat while I wash my hair. You just sit there and enjoy your tea
while I go and get the shampoo and towel." I sipped my tea, not understanding what
she meant. A couple minutes later, she returned, with the shampoo and towel, filled
the kitchen sink and then dunked her hair and started washing it-right there! In the kitchen sink
